One of our proudest accomplishments was helping Dell, Inc. go from “environmental laggard” to “environmental leader” in just over a year. When activists attacked them for a lackluster recycling program, we helped build bridges and work with both sides to find solutions. The result was favorable for all involved: the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition and Texas Campaign for the Environment saw Dell change their policies, and Dell found a profit center and a branding position along the way. Dell not only has free consumer recycling, but also is moving toward becoming the first carbon-free electronics company.
