About Us
Kevin Tuerff, CEO
Kevin Tuerff is cofounder of Tuerff-Davis EnviroMedia Inc., the holding company for subsidiaries Green Canary Sustainability Consulting and EnviroMedia Social Marketing -- the leading U.S. marketing agency providing sustainability consulting, delivering authentic, ethical campaigns, achieving measurable results since 1997 while generating $80 million in revenue.
As CEO of Green Canary Sustainability Consulting, Tuerff oversees strategy and stakeholder relations for global corporate clients. As a participant and observer in events like the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Bali (December 2007) and the Wall Street Journal’s ECO:nomics conference in Santa Barbara (March 2008), he keeps clients abreast of important developments in global climate-change issues.
Tuerff's sustainability experience runs deep. In 1993, Tuerff managed environmental legislation for Texas State Senator Rodney Ellis, including vehicle emissions testing and industrial emissions trading. For the next four years, he managed pollution prevention and recycling programs at the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (now Texas Commission on Environmental Quality), and is a cofounder of America Recycles Day (November 15).
Underlying Tuerff’s success has been a strong commitment to innovation and ethics when it comes to finding sustainable solutions. Under EnviroMedia Social Marketing, he led Dell to revamp its electronic-waste recycling program, engaging with both protestors and stakeholders nationwide to turn the company from environmental laggard into environmental leader. Along the way, he worked with various internal departments to change practices, such as reviewing supplier commitments, engaging with stakeholders worldwide, and adopting recycled-content paper requirements for all catalogs and newspaper inserts (which now saves the company money). Most recently, Tuerff worked with Dell’s branding team to develop platforms for the company’s global environmental initiatives.
Additionally, Tuerff has led teams that contributed to a 70 percent sales increase for renewable energy provider Green Mountain Energy Company and established sustainability platforms for the U.S. subsidiary of Tetra Pak. Tuerff and his cofounder Valerie Davis launched Green Canary Sustainability Consulting in March 2008 to help companies develop working strategies to ensure credibility, minimize risk and achieve goals within the green-marketing arena.
The company’s work to improve integrity in green marketing has been highlighted in The Washington Times, Brandweek and U.S. News & World Report.
Tuerff writes about climate change for a monthly column for EnvironmentalLeader.com and a twice-weekly blog for the Austin American Statesman (enviromedia.statesmanblogs.com). He frequently speaks about sustainability, marketing and ethics at environmental conferences and guest-lectures at his alma mater, The University of Texas at Austin.
